Pastoral Support
King's Wood is heavily invested in providing high quality pastoral support. All teaching and learning staff give pupils encouragement to develop resilience, self -esteem, confidence and self-regulation and to promote positive behaviour choices. This is underpinned by our Growth Mindset philosophy.
Where pupils may need a bit more help, we have trained members of staff including:
-
Assistant Head Teachers (Mrs Martin for KS1 & EYFS and Mr Hickey for KS2)
-
Inclusion Coordinator (Mrs Kendrew)
-
Learning Mentors (Mrs Bower & Miss Arnold)
-
Key Worker (Miss Spencer and Mrs Bashir)

The support offered ranges from informal support as and when needed to more structured support including:
-
Nurture Group (Cherry Trees in Year 1 which is followed up in Thinking Space in Year 2)
-
Young Carers support group
-
Play therapy
-
Friendship groups
-
1:1 pupil mentoring
-
In class support
-
PRU involvement (Pupil Referral Unit - there are specific criteria for referral to the PRU)
The support is dynamic and flexible - we allocate time and resources to fit around children's needs.
